Little Odessa is a 1994 crime drama about the relationship between two brothers and their father in the large Russian community living in Brighton Beach, Brooklyn. Joshua Shapira (Tim Roth) returns to his old neighborhood, known as "Little Odessa", after an absence of several years. He originally left after becoming estranged from his family for his criminal activities. Sent back to Brighton Beach to kill someone on behalf of the Russian Mafia, he decides to try and reconnect with his brother Reuben (Edward Furlong) and his old girlfriend Alla (Moira Kelly). Though his reunion with both goes well, his relationship with his father Arkady (Maximilian Schell) remains cold. Horrified at the fact that his eldest son is a gun for hire, Arkady refuses Joshua's wish to see his terminally ill mother, Irina (Vanessa Redgrave). Joshua tries to find a way to set things right with him while, at the same time, preparing to dispatch the man that he was sent to kill.moreless
