Living Proof is a 2008 dramatic biography directed by Dan Ireland based on the book HER-2: The Making of Herceptin, a Revolutionary Treatment for Breast Cancer by Robert Bazell. In the film, Dr. Denny Slamon (Harry Connick Jr.) is a brilliant scientist working at UCLA Medical Center trying to develop a revolutionary breast cancer drug. The drug, Herceptin, has the potential to cure breast cancer for thousands of women. However, the drug company who was funding the project pulled out before the drug was complete. Without the proper funding, Slamon would not have a chance to perfect his drug and make it available to the public. Instead of giving up, Slamon turns to philanthropist, Lilly Tartikoff (Angie Harmon), and Ron Perelman (Joe Nemmers). Perelman makes the first donation to restart the project and Lilly takes over organizing fundraisers to keep it going. Slamon must rely on their generosity to finish the research he needs to save the lives of women suffering from breast cancer.moreless
