The Lodger is a 2009 crime drama directed by David Ondaatje. Joe Bunting (Donal Logue) and Ellen Bunting (Hope Davis) decide to rent out a room in their home to bring in some extra income. When the friendly but eccentric writer Malcolm (Simon Baker) inquires about their property, they agree to take him on as a tenant. Ellen suffers from depression, but she takes comfort in the presence of another friendly face. She develops a fondness for Malcolm's charming quirks and soon finds herself developing feelings for her mysterious lodger. Meanwhile, homicide detective Chandler Manning (Alfred Molina) investigates a series of murders in West Hollywood. A number of prostitutes are found brutally slain along the Sunset Strip, and it becomes clear that a Los Angeles murderer is mimicking the crime spree of London's iconic serial killer, Jack the Ripper. When Manning's investigation leads him to the Buntings' doorstep, Ellen must decide if her loyalties lie with the law or with her mysterious tenant, who may or may not be a vicious killer.moreless
