Lolita is a 1962 dark comedy and drama directed by Stanley Kubrick. The film is an adaptation of Vladimir Nabakov's 1955 novel, and Nabakov also wrote the screenplay. Humbert Humbert (James Mason) seems like an ordinary man. He is an unmarried professor of French literature in his 40s, recently hired at a small college in New Hampshire. Looking for a place to live, Humbert runs into Charlotte Haze (Shelley Winters), a divorced woman who is instantly smitten by the distinguished and unattached professor. She invites Humbert to rent out a room in her house. Although Humbert is amused and annoyed by Charlotte's melodramatic demeanor, everything changes when he meets Charlotte's daughter, Lolita (Sue Lyon). It is love at first sight for Humbert, but there is one major problem. Lolita is only 14 years old, still in high school and obsessed with fashion magazines and bubblegum. When Humbert Humbert agrees to move into the Haze house, he triggers a chain of events that spiral out of control, fueled by his obsession with young Lolita.moreless
