2005
Rating:

London is a romance-drama that shows viewers why drugs don't mix well with a broken heart. The film begins in New York, where Syd (Chris Evans) is still in love with London (Jessica Biel). Six months ago, he was ready to marry her, but his plans turned sour after she broke up with him when she discovered his cocaine habit. Syd learns from London's best friend, Becca (Isla Fisher), that she's moving to LA and that Becca is throwing her a going-away party. He decides to crash the party and to confess his love for her, hoping this will convince London to stay. He brings his drug-dealing friend, Bateman (Jason Statham), with him to the party. They meet a gay bartender, Mallory (Joy Bryant), who tells Bateman that London is hiding in the bathroom. Syd and his friend head upstairs to the wrong room and manage to get themselves locked inside. With a bunch of cocaine and time on their hands, the two snort away and recount their life's difficulties in a series of short flashbacks. Eventually, they escape and find London on the balcony. The question is whether Syd is capable of completing his mission now that he's almost overdosed on cocaine.moreless

    Chicago Sun-Times Roger Ebert

    Bad movie. Ugly movie.

  • 20

    The New York Times

A misfired attempt at provocation and the exploration of philosophical thought, London is little more than an immature display of male bonding on speed.

    Variety Dennis Harvey

For those who enjoy fashion-model-looking twentysomethings yelling at each other in bathrooms while doing too much cocaine, voila! Heaven is a place called London.
