Long Distance is a 2005 thriller directed by Marcus Stern. A young college student, Nicole (Monica Keener), gets into an argument with her mother over the phone and hangs up. When she tries to call her back, she dials the wrong number and gets the answering machine of someone who immediately calls her back. Nicole briefly engages the caller but hangs up. The caller (Jason Chapman) identifies himself an "average Joe," and begins calling her until she finally disconnects her answering machine. The next morning, Nicole gets a visit from the police. It seems that her number was dialed from a home where a brutal murder had occurred the night before. Joe starts to call Nicole on a regular basis, and always from the location where a brutal murder is discovered. It seems the mysterious caller is on a cross-country murdering spree, and his trail is headed straight to Nicole's door.
