Lost Treasures of Tibet from the NOVA team at PBS showcases works of art from Buddhist monasteries in the Himalayan Mountain which are held sacred by the Tibetans. This programs features 13th century masterpieces which have been severely damaged in the years of neglect and Himalayan weather. Teams of western scientists and conservationists travel to the distant region in trying to rescue these battered works. The secretive Buddhist culture further complicates things politically as it is debated whether outsiders should be allowed to view and trusted to use modern scientific methods to try to save these works. Can these works be preserved in a way that is permissible to local traditional culture? Eastern and Western cultures are at times in both conflict and collaboration as this study of ancient history unfolds. This is a rare look at remote and spectacular art work. The program is narrated by Liev Schreiber for NOVA.
