Love in the Afternoon is a classic romantic comedy starring Gary Cooper and Audrey Hepburn in a May-December love affair. In Paris, Monsieur X (John McGiver) hires private investigator Claude Chavasse (Maurice Chevalier) to find out if his wife (Lise Bourdin ) has been cheating with the notorious American playboy Frank Flannagan (Gary Cooper). Chavasse does catch the two on film in an illicit moment. When Chavasse breaks the news to the husband, the detective's daughter, Ariane (Audrey Hepburn), overhears Monsieur X threaten to kill Flanagan. She rushes to the Hotel Ritz to warn Frank, assuming the identity of a femme fatale. Ariane then leaves without giving Frank her name or any identifying information. Flanagan finds himself intrigued and decides to hire Chavasse to track down the "mystery woman." When the investigator realizes that it is his own daughter, he warns Ariana to stay away from the middle-aged heartbreaker as well as telling Flanagan to not get involved with her.
