Love Is a Many-Splendored Thing is set against the backdrop of the Korean War, with a story revolving around two people -- Mark Elliot (William Holden) and Han Suyin (Jennifer Jones). Mark Elliott is a charismatic and compassionate American war correspondent, who lands in Hong Kong at the commencement of the Korean war, while Han Suyin is a beautiful and graceful Eurasian doctor, and widow of a military general. Attracted to each other, love blossoms between the two despite the unfriendly surroundings of war, Elliot's married status, communism, the challenges of a cross-cultural relationship, the pressures of their friends, and Han Suyin's Chinese family. The movie, filled with a variety of emotions and a tender romance, is immortalized by inspiring performances by the lead duo of the film, William Holden, playing the role of Mark Elliot, and Jennifer Jones essaying the role of the exquisite and charming Eurasian doctor Han Suyin.
