Love Jones is a 1997 American film written and directed by Theodore Witcher and starring Larenz Tate, Nia Long, Bill Bellamy, and Isaiah Washington. Set in Chicago, the film tells the story of Darius Lovehall (Tate), poet who is performing at the Sanctuary, a local jazz and poetry club. Before his set begins, Darius meets Nina Mosely (Nia Long), a photographer. He immediately falls in love with her and when his set begins he retitles a poem in her honor. Darius is persistent that she go on a date with him and after walking her back to her apartment, the sleep together. Unsure of the next step, Nina and Darius must then decide if they want their already intense relationship to be pursued further. Darius' friends think that he is crazy for wanting to give up his freedom, while Nina is unsure if she is still in love with her ex-boyfriend.
