Love Object

Movie Summary

Director:
Robert Parigi
Released:
2004
Rating:
R
Love Object is a 2003 suspense movie that revolves around a technical writer named Kenneth Winslow (Desmond Harrington). Depressed and lonely, Kenneth orders a rubber sex doll, who he names Nikki. He treats Nikki like a real life woman, even having discussions and arguments with her. Kenneth meets a temp at work named Lisa (Melissa Sagemiler) and the two develop a relationship. Eventually, Kenneth asks Lisa to begin dressing like Nikki and to cut her hair like hers. But when his imagined relationship with Nikki becomes intense, he gets angry and cuts her up. Lisa becomes mortified when she learns about Nikki, causing her to break up with Kenneth. He does not take the break up well, going as far as tying Lisa up and dressing her up in Nikki's clothing. Lisa tries to escape, but what happens next adds another twist to the story that will leave viewers intrigued, yet skeptical at the same time.

While the premise has possibilities for some creepy, pulpy fun, writer-director Robert Parigi brings too little style or humor, instead going a more obvious, overwrought route.
