Lucas is a 1986 coming-of-age film about a nerdy 14-year-old boy who falls in love with a slightly older, but far worldlier girl. Lucas Bly is a lonely boy who is constantly picked on in high school. The only person who ever sticks up for him is Cappie (Charlie Sheen), a football player who Lucas helped years ago when Cappie was sick. Lucas' life takes a turn for the better, though, when Maggie (Kerri Green) moves in next door. She is beautiful and kind, and Lucas instantly falls in love with her. Though she welcomes his friendship, Maggie has no romantic interest in Lucas. Instead, she develops feelings for Cappie, a fact that enrages Lucas. In an effort to prove to her that he is worthy of her affections, Lucas joins the football team. Too small to compete, he is badly injured and Maggie and Cappie stand vigil in the hospital while he recuperates. Lucas is a poignant reminder of the both the power and fickleness of young love.moreless
