Lucy Gallant tells the story of the titular Lucy (Jane Wyman), who decides to open a clothing shop in the booming Texas oil town of New City in the early 1940s. While stranded in the town's train depot because of a violent rainstorm, the fashionable Lucy sells $4,800 worth of her own clothes to the women of the town who are starved for the latest fashions. Lucy decides that she is going to stay in the town and open a fashionable clothing shop. Casey Cole (Charlton Heston), who Lucy met at the train station on her first night in town, is one of the town's few remaining ranchers and is skeptical that Lucy will be able to secure a loan from the town's banker, Charlie Madden (William Demarest). Despite their initial coolness, Casey and Lucy find they are strongly attracted to each other but after the Japanese attack on Pearl Harbor, Casey enlists in the Army, separating the couple. Will they be able to overcome their difficulties and find true love? Will Lucy be able to build a successful business? Lucy Gallant was directed by Robert Parrish and was based on the novel "The Life of Lucy Gallant," by Margaret Cousins.moreless
