Lynch is a study of filmmaker David Lynch's creative process as he works on Inland Empire, a psychological thriller released in 2006. Fans of David Lynch have long recognized his surreal and abstract style of cinematography from such films as Eraserhead, The Elephant Man, Wild at Heart and Mulholland Drive. This documentary explores the influences and techniques behind his work. From his office in Los Angeles and various film locales, Lynch discusses how everything from his childhood in middle America to his 30-year practice of meditation have influenced his art. The documentary style is carefully unobtrusive; you will hardly hear a word from the people behind the camera. The images, though seemingly random to non-fans, reflect the same recurring motifs seen in many of Lynch's films: industrial machinery, factories, and the dark underworld of the city. However, fans will mostly enjoy the candid moments with David Lynch, whose advice is not always constrained to film making: "You do the work for the doing, not for the fruit... If you don't enjoy the doing, do something else."moreless
