Madame Sousatzka brings the pain and joy of immigrant life in Britain to life in this 1988 film starring Shirley MacLaine. Yuline Sousatzka (Shirley MacLaine), a Russian immigrant known for her remarkable teaching skills. Sushila Sen, an Indian immigrant new to London, must support her family after the untimely death of her husband. Her son, Manek (Navin Chowdhry), finds solace in the piano and shows a remarkable affinity for it. His teacher refers him to Yuline, who nurtures his talent and helps him to excel beyond his wildest beliefs. She slowly begins to dominate Manek's life, however, controlling more than just his piano lessons. As the two women in Manek's life begin to vie for control of it, Manek will have to decide on his own just what he wants to do with his rare gift, and how he can reconcile his relationship with his mother and the woman who brought out the best in him.
