Madeline is a children's film directed by Daisy von Scherler Mayer based on the beloved Madeline book series by Ludwig Bemelmans, which centers on the smallest and definitely most precocious of the girls at a boarding school in Paris. Madeline (Hatty Jones) has a knack for getting into trouble, a skill that tests the never-ending patience of her loving teacher, Miss Clavel. Whether it is from falling into the Seine River or becoming an adversary of the devilish Pepito, the son of the neighboring Spanish Ambassador, Madeline's larger than life personality leaves her and the rest of the students without an ounce of boredom. When the school's owner Lord Covington (Nigel Hawthorne) decides to sell the school after his wife's death, it is up to Madeline, her devious little mind, and the help of the other girls (and Pepito, of course) to save the school from closing. Madeline utilizes some of the memorable scenes from the book series as it brings this children's classic to life.moreless
