Released:
1966
Rating:
Mademoiselle is a beautiful spinster school teacher played by Jeanne Moreau who is secretly in love with virile ladies man Manou (Ettore Manni). When the "Mademoiselle" accidentally sets a fire and watches as the shirtless logger Manou comes to the rescue, she begins to set fires, causing flooding and poisoning wells until the town is financially ruined because of her wish to gain the man's attention. While Manou exploits many women in the village, he does start a relationship with the Mademoiselle. Little does Manou know that his young son has also fallen for her, even as she takes out her sexual frustration on him by trying to shame him in front of the other students. It is Bruno (Keith Skinner) that realizes that it is Mademoiselle who is burning farms and not his father as the townspeople claim. Will Bruno turn the Mademoiselle in or will he stand by and watch as his father is blamed for the destruction of the village? The film is directed by Tony Richardson and written by Marguerite Duras and Jean Genet.moreless
