Magic of Marciano follows a boy as he deals with his mother's debilitating mental illness and learns to survive when social services steps to help the situation. Nine-year-old James (Cody Morgan) loves his mother, Katie (Nastassja Kinski), but thinks their lives would be so much easier without her abusive boyfriend, Curt (Jason Cairns), in their lives. Katie has dealt with the stress of being a single parent by drinking and smoking to excess. Between her bouts with the bottle and working she has little time for her son. James meets Henry (Robert Forster), a wealthy widower preparing a boat for a trip around the world. James thinks Henry would be the perfect match for Katie when she finally cuts her ties with Curt. But Henry knows Katie is dealing with more issues than a disappointing relationship evidenced by dramatic mood swings and undiagnosed mental illness. He avoids James' attempts to fix the two up. Tony Barbieri directs the 2000 drama that won the New American Cinema Award at the 2000 Seattle International Film Festival.moreless
