Magic Town is a charming, romantic comedy directed by William A. Wellman and released in 1947 by Robert Riskin Productions. Professional pollster Rip Smith (James Stewart) owns his own polling business but is on the brink of financial disaster and may lose everything. One day, he realizes the public opinions reported in a mysterious small town called Grandview are precisely representative of the opinions of the entire American public. Smith can now conduct polls cheaply and easily, with few overhead costs, and realizes that this is just the thing needed to save his floundering company. Unfortunately for him, local newspaper editor and citizen activist Mary Peterman (Jane Wyman) discovers Smith's plans and wants to alert the townsfolk. Smith fears that this may break the lucrative Grandview "spell" by making its citizens self-conscious. It appears that Smith and Peterman will just have to agree to disagree - but this becomes much more difficult when they begin to fall in love with each other. Now Rip must attempt to simultaneously protect his business and his love life!moreless
