Mail Order Bride is a 2003 comedy about the Italian-American mafia and the Russian mob working together to smuggle women into the United States. The action begins when a Russian mail order bride named Nina (Ivana Milicevic) rips off five potential husbands. Unfortunately for her, she swindled a member of the Italian mafia out of $50,000. The Italian mob boss Tony Santini (Danny Aiello) decides to send his nephew, Anthony (Robert Capelli, Jr.), along with Ivan (Slava Schoot) from the Russian mob, to Russia to find Nina and get their money back. Unbeknownst to Anthony, no one, including his friends, Tommy (Artie Lange) and Tooty (Vincent Pastore), believe he can get the job done. Once in Moscow, Anthony quickly meets up with Nina and falls in love. Together, they scurry around Moscow evading the KGB and both the Italian-American and Russian mobs. Mail Order Bride is a both a mob comedy and a hilarious fish-out-of-water tale.

Metacritic Score

  • 20

    Variety

Dismally unfunny cross-cultural farce posits stupidity as the universal language.

  • 20

    The Hollywood Reporter

Ultimately unable to overcome both its amateurish qualities and its overly familiar elements.

  • 10

The New York Times Stephen Holden

Might have generated a laugh or two had it not forced the actors into uncomfortable extremes of caricature.
