Mala Noche, or "Bad Night" in English, is the directorial debut of famous filmmaker Gus Van Sant. He is best know for his films Elephant, Milk, and Good Will Hunting. The film was made in 1985 with a small budget and minimal camerawork - the picture is mostly black and white. Mala Noche follows a sexually depraved and perverse homosexual man named Walt (Tim Streeter) as he pursues the attention of two young Mexican boys, Johnny (Doug Cooeyate) and Roberto Pepper (Ray Monge). A very desperate Walt, who works as a store clerk, cunningly invites Johnny and Pepper over for dinner one night. He is accompanied by his girl friend Betty (Nyla McCarthy). Johnny and Pepper agree to dinner and join Walt at his house. After several hours pass, Walt makes a pass at Johnny. He tells him he will pay him $15 in return for sexual favors. What ensues is a dark, disturbing story of a child offender who will stop at nothing.moreless
