Management is a 2008 movie about Mike Flux (Steve Zahn), a somewhat overeager motel employee, and his deepening affection for and courtship of guest and traveling salesperson Sue Claussen (Jennifer Anniston). A brief romance over a bottle of champagne eventually leads to a one-night sexual fling (initiated by Sue); this stage of the relationship is short-lived, however, after she returns home and leaves Mike at the motel. Undeterred, Mike follows Sue to Baltimore, but the budding romance becomes interrupted (briefly) by the death of his mother, Trish Flux (Margo Martindale). Trish's passing and assent to Sue and Mike's partnership strengthens his resolve to pursue Sue yet again, but this time affairs have become complicated by her new attachment with old boyfriend Jango (Woody Harrelson). Complicating matters, Sue is carrying a child and plans marriage to Jango. Mike acquires sole ownership of the motel from his father Jerry (Fred Ward), and decides to convert the property to homeless lodging.

Mike may be a bumbling sad sack, but Mr. Zahn gives him just enough spunky appeal to lend this unlikely fly-by-afternoon coupling and its consequences a shred of credibility.

Though it doesn't always work, it's an idea with its heart in the right place and, paired with nonshock comedy, it's a nice change of pace.
