Manfish is a 1956 United Artists horror classic. This film was released in Great Britain under the name "Calypso." It was loosely based on a combination of Edgar Alan Poe's "The Telltale Heart" and "The Gold Bug." This film follows two treasure hunters, Captain Brannigan (John Bromfield) and the Professor (Victor Jory). The two go on a search for a mystical lost treasure. They sail on Brannigan's boat, the Manfish, and find a mysterious island with the treasure hidden somewhere in the sand. With the treasure close at hand, the Professor murders Brannigan. He prepares to search the island, but soon finds himself haunted by the sound of Brannigan's breathing. The death rattle, which seems to pursue the Professor everywhere he goes, soon drives the killer insane. Yet, the Professor is determined to outlast the ghost that haunts him. He forces himself to focus and continue looking for the treasure. He has come too far to turn back.
