Maniacts is a 2001 film directed by C.W. Cressler and Curt Cressler. The story revolves around the unlikely coupling of two patients, Joe Spinelli (Jeff Fahey) and Beth Windsor (Kellie Waymire), who are imprisoned at the Edgemore institute for the criminally insane. Joe, known as the "Blue Blood Killer," was sentenced to the asylum after systematically killing everyone indirectly involved in the death of his mother. The equally violent Beth, who believes she has royal blood, was also sentenced for a spree of killings. The duo is tired of living under the oppressive rule of the institute's corrupt director and decides that they are going to escape to live a normal life in the country. Naturally, they kill their captors to gain their freedom and then settle down in a quiet part of Arizona. However, living a normal life is more difficult than they suspected as they still struggle with their inner demons and because they just can't seem to stop killing people. This film provides an intriguing mixture of dark comedy, gore, and a surprisingly sweet romance.moreless
