Man's Best Friend is the 1993 canine sci-fi thriller from writer-director John Lafia (Child's Play 2). At a mysterious, high tech laboratory - an unseen but apparently monstrous assailant kills a hapless female lab worker' Cut to compassionate and driven television newswoman Lori Tanner (Ally Sheedy, Short Circuit, The Breakfast Club, War Games) who seeks to expose the cruel vivisection antics she perceives to be going on within and, to this end, breaks into the lab with her camerawoman to get some Johnny-On-The-Spot footage. After witnessing a few gruesome examples, she comes upon a beautiful 130 pound Tibetan Mastiff that she wants to spare from his turn and busts the dog prisoner loose, much to the alarm of scientist head, Dr. Jarret (Lance Henriksen, Aliens, Near Dark, Pumpkinhead, Hard Target). Lori takes the dog home, where he proves to be the perfect, loving companion - at first. Soon, he is manifesting astonishing - and violent - abilities.
