Marebito is a 2004 Japanese horror movie written by Chiaki Konaka and directed by Takashi Shimizu. It is based on a novel written by Chiaki Konaka. Tokyo based freelance cameraman, Takuyoshi Masuoka (Shin'ya Tsukamoto), investigates urban legends about ghosts. He is also obsessed with death and dying, particularly the emotions right at the moment of death. Late one night, while investigating a spirit said to be riding the Tokyo subway, he videos a man commit suicide by stabbing himself in the eye. The playback footage shows the man in a profound state of horror at the moment when his life escaped him. Struck by deep existential dread, Masuoka flees into an abandoned section of the subway. After wandering for a time in a stupor, Masuoka finds a beautiful mysterious woman also wandering in the tunnels. The woman does not speak, so Masuoka names her F (Tomomi Miyashita). Masuoka Leads F back to his apartment where he tries to nurse her back to health. She rejects all of his offerings of food and drink. Soon Masuoka learns the awful truth about F, and his attempts to save her drive him into a hell beyond his imagination.moreless
