Marion Bridge is a 2002 Canadian drama based on a play by Daniel MacIvor and directed by Wiebke von Carolsfeld. The film follows Agnes (Molly Parker) who returns home to the small town of Sydney, Nova Scotia to take care of her dying mother, Rose (Marguerite McNeil). Agnes, a recovering alcoholic herself, soon discovers her mother has also been secretly living the life of an alcoholic for most of her life. Agnes' sisters, Theresa (Rebecca Jenkins) and Louise (Stacy Smith), decide against their better judgement, to bring Rose home so the three of them can take care of her. Living at home, the three must deal with their ill-tempered mother while learning to live with together. Agnes must also come to grips with the past she left behind and reconnect with a teenage girl named Joanie (Ellen Page). Marion Bridge was the Winner of the Best Canadian First Feature Film at the 2002 Toronto International Film Festival.
