Mark of Cain is an award-winning British film that takes an honest look at modern warfare in the style of films such as Black Hawk Down and Casualties of War. The film follows two young men as they experience the travesties of war for the first time, and struggle to come to terms with what they have seen and done. Based on true events during the Iraq War, the film opens with two ordinary 18-year-olds, Shane (Matthew McNulty) and Treacle (Gerard Kearns) as they arrive in Iraq. Soon after their arrival, their popular captain is killed and morale sinks dangerously low. As a result, the two are part of a group ordered to search for suspects in a village. Anger and frustration take over, and the two find themselves participating in events that quickly spiral out of control. Like many returning veterans, Shane and Treacle struggle to accept what they have done, especially upon their not-so-triumphant return to the United States.moreless
