Marooned is a 1969 thriller about three astronauts who find themselves trapped inside a space craft that becomes disabled while on its way back to Earth. Commander Jim Pruitt (Richard Crenna), Buzz Lloyd (Gene Hackman) and Clayton "Stoney" Stone (James Franciscus) are returning home from an experimental Apollo mission when main engine failure leaves them marooned in outer space. With time quickly running out and oxygen dwindling, the astronauts can only wait for a rescue attempt. NASA Director Charles Keith (Gregory Peck) opposes a rescue attempt due to money and time constraints. Chief astronaut Ted Dougherty (David Janssen) is willing to try anything and eventually gets the go ahead for a daring rescue. In the meantime, the astronauts realize that there is only enough oxygen left for two of them. Dougherty, whose first rescue attempt is delayed by a hurricane, must try to make it to the disabled ship before the oxygen runs out.
