Movie Summary

Director:
Ira Sachs
Released:
2007
Rating:
PG-13
Married Life is the 2008 drama set in the 1940s in which murder seems to be the only alternative to divorce. Harry (Chris Cooper) is unhappily married to Pat (Patricia Clarkson) and locked in a dreary and lonely relationship. He finds love in the arms of Kay (Rachel McAdams). Harry knows he will only find happiness if he leaves Pat, but he still has a sympathetic desire to care for her feelings. He confides in his friend Richard (Pierce Brosnan), but Richard is taken by Kay and wants to pursue her as well. Meanwhile he discovers that Pat may be cheating on Harry as well. Richard is tempted to expose everyone's secrets. However, Harry has another plan. He thinks it might be more merciful to have Pat killed than to expose her to the public disgrace resulting from the still culturally taboo divorce. Married Life exposes the raw underside of lifelong commitments.
