Marshal of Amarillo is a 1948 western directed by Philip Ford. The story begins when Ben Dolan (Roy Barcroft) intentionally wrecks a stagecoach and strands its three passengers in the middle of the night. Dolan advises the passengers, gold prospector Nugget Clark (Eddy Waller), businessman James Underwood (Tom Chatterton), and salesman Hiram Short, to walk to a nearby Inn. The three check into their rooms but Nugget feels uncomfortable with the surroundings and decides to leave. When Nugget looks for his fellow passengers to tell them he is going, he finds out Short has been killed and Underwood is missing. Nugget rushes back to Amarillo and notifies Marshal "Rocky" Lane of the death and disappearance. When Lane shows up at the Inn to investigate, the owner tells him he's never seen Nugget or his friends before in his life. Working together with Underwood's daughter, Marjorie (Mildred Coles), Lane must uncover the truth and bring the guilty to justice. Fans of the Allan Lane westerns will be charmed by this engaging mystery.moreless
