Mary Poppins is a 1964 musical about a magical nanny who changes the life of a troubled family. The Travers family finds it impossible to keep a nanny, mostly because the two Travers children, Jane (Karen Dotrice) and Michael (Matthew Garber) constantly drive away anyone their parents hire. Exasperated, Mr. Banks (David Tomlinson) and Mrs. Banks (Glynis Johns) eventually decide to allow the children to write their own want ad for a nanny, hoping it might produce the right person. The new nanny arrives in the person of Mary Poppins (Julie Person), and her relationship with the children is an instant success. With the help of her friend, Bert (Dick Van Dyke), she takes the children on a series of magical adventures. Though the children are now happy, their parents worry about the fantastical stories they have begun to tell. When Mr. Banks loses his job, it's up to Mary and the children to figure out a way to help him get it back.moreless
