Mary Reilly is a 1996 thriller directed by Stephen Frears. It is based on a novel of the same name by Valerie Martin and is an adaptation of Robert Louis Stevenson's The Strange Case of Dr Jekyll and Mr Hyde. When Mary Reilly (Julia Roberts) begins to work as a servant in the home of Dr. Henry Jekyll (John Malkovich), she begins to fall in love with the brilliant doctor. After Dr. Jekyll learns that Mary was abused as a child, he also begins to show a genuine interest in her life. One day, Dr. Jekyll tells his staff that his colleague, Edward Hyde (John Malkovich), is coming for a visit. Almost as soon as Mary meets Hyde, she realizes that she has a strange attraction to the mysterious man. However, Hyde soon begins to wreak havoc in the life of Dr. Jekyll, and Mary finds herself caught in the middle.
