Mauvaise Graine is the directorial debut of five-time Academy Award winner Billy Wilder. This French drama takes place in France where rich playboy Henri Pasquier (Pierre Mingand), takes his life for granted. He doesn't work and only spends his father's, Dr. Pasquier (Paul Escoffier), hard-earned money. The rich doctor decides to off his son and even sells his new car to a stranger. Devastated, Henri hooks-up with a hot blonde to cheer himself up but suddenly realizes he has no car and no money. He then decides to steal back his old car. A gang of three car thieves, Jean (Jean Wall), Chef (Michel Duran) and beautiful Jeannette (Danielle Darrieux), meet up with Henri after the theft thinking that he's a rival car thief. They take him to their garage, and Henri starts to fall for Janette. Jean lets Henri join their gang, but after a few robberies, Henri finds everyone is not receiving an equal cut. Chef then sends the troublemaker, Henri, to Marseilles in a sabotaged car hoping he will crash and die along the way. Henri survives and convinces Jeannette to run away with him to Casablanca. Jeannette agrees but only if her brother Jean comes along. Henri then returns to the garage but finds more trouble there than he anticipated.moreless
