Max Manus: Man of War is a 2008 Norwegian movie based on the true story of resistance fighter Max Manus. The screenplay draws on books Max Manus authored and is mostly a historically accurate account. Max Manus: Man of War depicts Max Manus (Aksel Hennie) and his role in the Norwegian resistance movement from the Winter War of 1939 through peacetime in 1945. After serving as a volunteer fighter during the Winter War, Manus returns from Finland to discover that Norway is occupied by Nazis. Manus is arrested after joining the Norwegian resistance movement against Germany, but manages to escape. He trains in Scotland as a British Commando before returning to Norway to sabotage Nazi forces. He is wildly successful at this sabotage, but becomes a Gestapo target. In order to keep carrying out missions against the Nazis, Manus must come to terms with the loss of life he witnesses around him and fight inner demons as well as Nazi powers.moreless
