While attending a funeral for a fellow police officer in Nice, France, Moreau's partner, Sebastien, discovers that the deceased's name is actually Mikhail Suverov, and he was Moreau's twin brother. While uncovering his brother's roots, Moreau ventures to New York City, where he discovers that Suverov was murdered when he attempted to leave his position within the Russian mafia. Moreau is mistaken for Suverov, and so Moreau must go on the run to protect himself. His prior involvement with a separate mafia organization further complicates his innocence, and in his quest to avenge Suverov's death, Moreau gets tangled up with corrupt cops and more violent criminals.
