Medicine Man follows Dr. Robert Campbell (Sean Connery) as he searches for a cure for the plague of the 20th Century, cancer, in the jungles of South America. After some initial success, Campbell has stopped communicating with the pharmaceutical company financing his research and his wife and research assistant have left him. They send Dr. Rae Crane (Lorraine Bracco) to check on him. He tells her a native tribe had a medicine to cure cancer, but he had been unable to recreate the formula. He's identified a rare species of flower that is used to make the serum but its habitat is being threatened as a logging company works to build a road through the rainforest that will destroy the ecology and bring development closer to the native village, threatening the people there with disease. The researchers are also running out of the original serum, with its Peak 37, and a young native boy needs the last of it to survive a cancerous tumor. John McTiernan directs the 1992 dramatic film.
