Meera is a Hindi movie based on the life of Mirabai, a Hindu saint and poet who honored Lord Krishna. Although Mirabai has a place in mythology, this interpretation of her story focuses on historical events. Meera is set in the late 1500s in Hindustan, which is under the rule of King Akbar (Amjad Khan). Small provinces are joining in opposition of King Akbar to resist the spread of his power. The King of Medta, Biramdev (Dr Shreeram Lagoo), makes an agreement to join forces with Raja Vikramajit (Shammi Kapoor), and the king's daughter Meera (Hema Malini) is required to marry Vikramajit's son, Rana Bhojraj (Vinod Khanna). Meera opposes this marriage and, in her heart, recognizes that she belongs only to Lord Krishna. She follows her own beliefs, and her husband and his family disapprove of her. Is Meera doomed to suffer due to their disapproval? Will her spirituality stay strong when they accuse her of shirking her duties to the point that her life is threatened?moreless
