Movie Summary

Director:
Barry Sonnenfeld
Released:
1997
Rating:
PG-13

Top-secret agency MiB was created to watch over alien life on Earth. Agent K, a senior member of the organization, begins searching for a new partner after his former associate leaves for retirement. He chooses James Edwards, a current member of the New York Police Department, who manages to chase down an alien during his rounds one evening. Impressed by his skill, Agent K informs him of the existence of aliens and the purpose of his agency. Initially skeptical, Edwards (renamed Agent J) eventually accepts his position with enthusiasm, partly motivated by the amazing technology the agency offers. The new partners must quickly learn to work as team after a plot involving assassination, theft, and the destruction of earth is set into motion by the nefarious "Bug" race.

  • Kinda childish really...

    6.5
I guess I expected a bit more somehow. By childish I mean many of the special effects for the 'aliens' were right out of a saturday morning cartoon. Its a funny thing-if someone actually sees a ufo & reports it they will sometimes get visits from the real 'men in black' who are Air Force Special Investigators who are not known for their sensitivity. In a way this film makes light of a real issue-aa in only a fool would dispute that some things in the air are not easily identifiable. I thought the sequels to this film were less effective than the original. Tommy Lee Jones was good as the lead investigator. Good for teens rather than for adults.moreless
