Mercury Rising is an action film about a nine-year old boy named Simon (Miko Hughes) who cracks a secret code. The code, called "Mercury" protects U.S. Government operations world-wide, and once cracked it becomes a danger to the country. The head of the National Security Agency, Nicholas Kudrow (Alec Baldwin) orders the boy and his family killed because if an enemy of the United States captures Simon to gain the information, the nation will be vulnerable to terrorist attacks. The autistic boy genius is found hiding in the family's home by veteran FBI Agent Art Jeffries (Bruce Willis), after his parents are killed. It becomes a deadly game when Artie realizes that he can't trust anyone in the government and takes the boy on the run. Simon proves to be a temperamental handful for Artie as they elude the hitman in downtown Chicago. It becomes clear that Simon's genius might be their only hope for survival.
