Message from Space is a 1978 science-fiction film directed by Kinji Fukasaku. The film was released one year after Star Wars, and is thought of as an attempt to capitalize on the more popular film's success. Message from Space is centered on the lives of General Garuda (Vic Morrow), rebel leader Prince Hans (Sonny Chiba), Shiro Hongo (Hiroyuki Sanada), Aaron Solar (Philip Casnoff), and Meia Long (Peggy Lee Brennan). The film takes place in a galaxy where a group of beings known as the metal Gavanas are attempting to bring all civilization under their rule and to exterminate those who refuse to cooperate. The leader of the resistance forces chooses eight individuals to receive poweful Liabe seeds that will help them to defend against the metal Gavanas. Each guardian is from a different background in terms of social class and profession, which allows them to bring a wide skill set to the battle.
