Meteor is a 1979 disaster film directed by Ronald Neame. When a comet strikes a giant asteroid called Orpheus, a five mile long piece of Orpheus begins to hurtle towards Earth. If the asteroid collides with the planet, it will destroy all life on Earth. The United States government has an orbiting nuclear missile created by Dr. Paul Bradley (Sean Connery), and officials want to use the weapon to destroy Orpheus. They know that their one weapon, which has been dubbed Hercules, will not have enough force to stop the asteroid, so they have to ask the country's top enemies, the Russians, for help. The only problem is that the mistrusting Russians do not want to admit the existence of their own nuclear device. As the asteroid moves closer to Earth, the scientists must try to solve their differences and race to destroy Orpheus before time runs out for the planet.
