His career is succesful and he has a wonderful girlfriend, Veronica Tate (Carmen Ejogo), who is a newspaper reporter. Roper catches a bank robber when the job goes bad and the criminal, Michael Korda (Michael Wincott), vows to get even with Roper for sending him to jail. Korda gets his chance at seeking revenge when he escapes from police custody. The failed bank robber's only intentions are to seek Roper and punish him for capturing him. Roper knows he cannot protect himself and the ones he loves all at the same time, so he enlists the help of his new partner, Kevin McCall (Michael Rappaport), to protect himself and the ones close to him.
