Mi Mejor Enemigo (My Best Enemy) is a 2005 dark comedy from Chilean filmmaker Alex Bowen. Set during the 1978 Beagle conflict, a border dispute between Chili and Argentina that nearly brought the countries to war, the film depicts an unusual bond between opposing forces. A young group of Chileans under the command of Sergeant Osvaldo Ferrer (Erto Pantoja) is sent to Punta Arenas to ready for an imminent war only to get lost and unknowingly dig in their trenches next to a lost group of Argentines. Neither group knows what side of the border they are on, which could trigger the beginning of the war. Tensions are dangerously high until the life of a Chilean solider with an infected wound is saved by Argentine Lieutenant Enrique Ocampo (Miguel Dedovich). The Chilean and Argentine soldiers take a liking to each other, drawing fake borders between their camps, playing football and having a barbecue until Ocampo revels to his new friends the date of his country's planned invasion.moreless
