Middle of Nowhere is a 2008 dramedy about a teenager finding an unusual way to earn money for college. When 18-year old Grace (Eva Amurri) gets rejected for a college loan, she discovers her mother Rhonda (Susan Sarandon) has ruined Grace's credit by using her name for unpaid loans, which funded an unwanted modeling career for her younger sister, Taylor Elizabeth (Willa Holland). Determined to still go to college, Grace takes a minimum wage job at a local water park, where she meets Dorian Spitz (Anton Yelchin). Dorian also wants to escape because his adoptive parents have ridiculously high expectations. The two cynical teens form a bond and Dorian thinks they should make money by selling pot to rich kids. Dubious at first, Grace eventually agrees because there the drug business is her only hope for college. Directed by John Stockwell ("Blue Crush") captures the angst and the comedy of the modern teenager.
