Directed by Clint Eastwood, Million Dollar Baby is the 2004 Academy Award winner for Best Picture that tells the story of Margaret Fitzgerald (Hilary Swank) as she trains as a boxer under the guidance of Frankie Dunn (Eastwood). When Maggie shows up at the door of Frankie's gym, he responds that he doesn't train girls. Maggie decides to show her dedication by tirelessly working out at his gym, and she is encouraged and trained by gym employee Eddie Dupris (Morgan Freeman). As Maggie becomes an award-winning fighter, Frankie begins to have faith in his client. They travel to Europe, where Maggie wins enough fights to earn her a match against the WBA women's welterweight champion for a million dollars. Maggie suffers a terrible accident in the ring leaving her a quadriplegic. While in the hospital she suffers a series of medical issues that leave her regularly attempting suicide. Frankie is then forced to decide how best to stay true to Maggie's wishes.moreless
