Miracle on 34th Street is a 1947 dramatic family comedy directed by George Seaton. The film is set in New York during the holidays. Doris Walker (Maureen O'Hara) is a no-nonsense business woman who works as the event co-ordinator for Macy's Department Store. Doris does not believe in anything that she can't prove actually exists. She has passed her beliefs to her 6-year-old daughter, Susan Walker (Natalie Wood). Because of this, Susan is very skeptical of many Christmas traditions, including Santa Claus. Doris runs into problems during the Macy's Thanksgiving day parade, when an old man approaches her and tells her the Santa who is to be in the parade is drunk. In a panic, she asks the man who informed her of this to fill in for the drunken Santa. He reluctantly agrees, and soon becomes a huge success. Eventually, the man who calls himself Kriss Kringle (Edward Gwenn) is transferred to the main Macy's Department store, where his success grows. Doris becomes suspicious of Kriss when she finds out he truly believes he is Santa Claus. She thinks the man must be delusional and works to have him removed from the store. However, a series of events makes her reconsider many things she and her daughter thought were true.
