MirrorMask is a 2005 adventurous fantasy film directed by Dave McKean and written by celebrated sci-fi writer Neil Gaiman and director Dave McKean. The visuals are simply stunning and were done by Jim Henson Productions. Helena (Stephanie Leonidas) is a 15-year-old girl who has spent most of her life traveling on the road with her family of circus entertainers. She dreams of running away from the circus to a real life. After an argument one night with her parents Joanne and Morris Campbell (Gina McKee, Rob Brydon), Helena wishes for a more stable life. Her mother falls ill that night and gets rushed to the hospital. Helena feels that it is her fault and falls into an alternate reality called the Dark Lands. Her dream takes her to a strange land of two opposing queens, strange creatures, giants, and dangerous sphinxes. The balance between dark and light in the kingdom has been broken. In order to save the kingdom and to return home, Helena must find the MirrorMask, a magic charm, which has the power to restore order.moreless
