Misery is a 1990 thriller based on a novel by Stephen King. As famous author Paul Sheldon (James Caan) is driving through a blizzard in Colorado, he has a car accident that leaves him injured on the side of the road. A nurse named Annie Wilkes (Kathy Bates) soon finds Paul, gives him CPR, and takes the unconscious man back to her home. When Paul awakens two days later, he discovers that he is incapacitated in Annie's bed with many broken bones. Annie soon tells him that she is his biggest fan and asks him if she can read his newest book while he recovers. When she discovers that Paul has killed the main character of her favorite book series, Annie becomes irate and decides that she is going to force him to rewrite the novel. As Annie's mental state begins a downward spiral into insanity, Paul realizes that he is going to have to find a way to escape from her clutches in order to save his own life.
