Mixed Company is a light hearted comedy about a struggling basketball coach that suddenly finds himself with three new adopted kids, all from different races. As the coach of the Phoenix Suns, Pete Morrison (Joseph Bologna) can't seem to do anything right; the team falters ever more with every bit of increased work Pete puts in. But as the father of three lively kids with his wife Kathy (Barbara Harris), Pete is doing just fine, and Kathy wants to spread their joy to an even bigger family. But when impotence and a severe case of the mumps cause Pete's efforts in the bedroom to be as futile as they are in the gym, Kathy convinces him to add to their clan by adopting three children. The complications and adventures ensue when the new additions to their previously all white family are African-American, Vietnamese, and Hopi Indian, inviting a field day of noise and stares from anyone looking. Pete's own fears and prejudices are put display as he and Kathy navigate their way through life with their new family and tries to get his professional life on track at the same time. Melville Shavelson directs this fun film that puts racial stereotypes on center stage.moreless
